Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, established since 1968, is one of the faculty which has the most number of courses and students at the University of Indonesia. It’s because since it is first established, FISIP UI growing rapidly. Now, FISIP UI have  35 study programs with 52 specialty programs, with more than 6000 students and 8 departments: (1) Department of Communication, (2) Department of Political Science, (3) Department of Administrative Sciences, (4) Department of Criminology, (5) Department of Sociology, (6) Department of Social Welfare Studies, (7) Department of Anthropology, and (8) Department of International Relations.

With the vision of "faculty teaching and research excellence in the field of social science and political science, which contributed to the development of quality of life", FISIP UI is committed to always carry out the quality teaching process. This is also supported by adequate infrastructure and facilities for its students. As the result, FISIP UI successfully ranked 18th of all the faculties of social science throughout Indonesia by QS survey.

The main objective of FISIP UI is to produce high quality, potential, and smart graduates to help bring Indonesia towards a better future. The better future of Indonesia can be achieved by having high quality graduates that can compete not only nationally, but also internationally. Globalization has created demands every country in the world, especially developing ones such as Indonesia, to have high quality human resources. This problem is also listed in the vision and mission statements in the Indonesia Leadership Initiative 2010 concepted by FISIP UI that is directed to developing the competitiveness of Indonesian social science in the globalization era. One dimension of the ILI program is Indonesia MUN.
