MUN for First Timer

PDFPrintE-mail

Be a first timer and feel worried? You better not. You are not alone, about half of the participants at IndonesiaMUN have no experience with MUN before. We would like to give you some tips so you can enjoy IndonesiaMUN.

First, you are expected to write a letter for our UN Secretary General, Mr. Ban-Ki Moon. You can write everything that you want, but try to make it attractive and smart. Maybe you can ask your friends to help you, but never ask them to write it for you.

After you pass the preliminary selection process, you will be asked to write a position paper. But hey, what is position paper? A position paper is a brief statement of the perspective of the country you are representing about the topic(s) in your committee. The purpose of the position paper is to allow the delegates an opportunity to clearly organise their research and define their country’s policies and  permits other delegates to quickly determine their fellow committee members’ stance on a topic.

You can start your reseach by visiting one of the links below:

At the conference, be sure to ask for your chairs’ help if you ever have any questions. We were all first-time MUN delegates at some point, so we understand that your first conference can be intimidating and confusing. The key is to participate in the committee and get a feel for how debate flows. Don’t be afraid to make speeches or comments – getting up and speaking in front of committee despite the inherent nervousness of doing so is a part of the learning process.

Last but not least, please do enjoy the process. enjoy your research, enjoy the debate, enjoy the social night, everything. Don’t hesistate to mingle and make new friends with other delegates. FYI, real diplomats usually use a time like that to discuss with others and it is an effective time to gain supports for their- and your- stance too.

That’s it. We hope these tips help you to prepare for the conference well. If you need more information, please contact us.

See you on IndonesiaMUN!!
